Founded in 1869, the Boothbay Region Water District currently serves the Towns of Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, and Southport. In 2002, it combined with the previously separate East Boothbay water system. In 2013, it was combined with the Southport water system. The district has a staff of nine and is overseen by a Board of Trustees. Over 60% of the district's pipes are devoted to seasonal water mains, which are generally turned on from May until October.
